Heroic 101st Airborne Division celebrates anniversary as paratroopers remember the soldiers who gave their lives for America

Thousands of soldiers and veterans are coming together this week to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the legendary 101st Airborne Division.

The group of elite paratroopers, considered a ‘cut above the rest’, was created on August 16, 1942, and first saw combat on one of the most crucial days in U.S. history – the D-Day invasion of France.

The 101st Airborne Division and the Fort Bragg, North Carolina-based 82nd Airborne Division would go on to redefine war strategies from World War II to Vietnam to the Middle East.

The poison Blue Lagoon: It might look inviting, but the water is almost as toxic as bleach

They call it the Blue Lagoon, and people come from far and wide to cool off in its clear waters. Yet the flooded former quarry is so polluted that its contents are almost as toxic as bleach. Signs close to the shoreline warn that not only is the water known to contain abandoned cars, dead animals and human waste, but it has a pH level of 11.3 – compared with 12.6 for bleach and 11.5 for ammonia.

Zealous immigrants are boosting the extreme right and militant settlers are pushing further into Palestinian territory.
