With their washed-out, almost sepia-like appearance depicting a simpler existence, these images give a fascinating insight into a community a world away from the rush of modern life.
These previously unseen photos show the rural Welsh villages of Llanuwchllyn and nearby Bala, in Gywnedd, north Wales, way back in the 1860s.
The unique pictures give a snapshot of the small Welsh community 140 years ago, where people travelled by donkey and relied on the local slate mine as part of its economy.
